Parabola 2022: The New Abnormal

On view Feb 5 – Mar 5

Parabola: The New Abnormal examines the now-ubiquitous phrase “the new normal,” which has become a constant refrain as we’ve adapted to new routines and regulations caused by the global pandemic. We ask participants to consider the following questions: What is or should be deemed normal vs. abnormal? What has changed during the pandemic? What should be brought back? What should stay? And—most importantly—what should change? Our objective is to reflect on what it means to live in the current times, acknowledging the historical relevance of this era and its impact on humanity, while daring to imagine a better world.

For more than a decade, the annual Parabola exhibition has brought together graduate and post-graduate students from across the University and asked them to contextualize their academic practice in terms of art and along the theme of the exhibition. The resulting works have comprised a diverse range of art, scientific research, pop-up community outreach, poetry and literature, and more. We believe that any field of study can be reimagined as an art practice.
